Buang busuk season starts.
In Malay, buang means throw away something we don’t want. Busuk means simply bad smell. Durian farmers use these words for durians which are not fragrant and not so tasty, that’s why durian trees throw.

Durian season always starts from buang busuk durians. In this time, we are too lucky to get this buang busuk durian partially having eaten by tupai, squirrel, but it was very smooth and bitter sweet musang king. This is just a start of durian season but we have already got this quality of durian. No doubts that we will get abundant durians in this season soon in terms of quality.

This is my first time trying Thailand specie durian.
FYI: The small hole is the point I pressed by my thumb unpurposely😂

I have never imagined that Thai durian is so creamy and fragrant as well. I think the quality of durian is not because of organic or chemical. The most important factors are balance of energy from sunlight, timing and nutrients from the soil.

I as a Japanese always feel the changes of season

I as a Japanese always feel the changes of season in Japan because we have 4 seasons. Each season has each atmosphere and smell to remind me of something past. While I stay in Malaysia for 6 years, I have never felt such kind of feelings because here’s no 4 season.
But suddenly I feel the start of spring in these several days in my shifu’s farm. Last week I felt a bit lonely because I knew the durian harvest season would be end very soon.

Harvest season is of course a very happy moment for us farmers and for durian trees as well just like celebrating birthdays for new durian seeds, but at the same time it is the most tough time for everyone. After overcoming those times, I felt like empty like autumn. But nature started giving me different feeling like happiness of spring. I want to comfort durian trees for having given a lot of fruits and celebrate for finishing the season. This is not the time to feel so sad, but this is the time to restart our journey to explore more nature. It’s like a graduation and entrance ceremony. This is what I got from nature. I was not sure WHY I feel so comfortable and happy in these several days in the farm, but now I am sure the feeling was given by the trees to let me know this is the time to restart a new era. I don’t know whether it’s because of Chinese new year or they know new lives will be coming soon, or something else?

最高峰のドリアンとは？

ドリアンハンターは私のことを
指しているわけではありません。

私はまだまだドリアン初心者で、
ただのドリアン好きでしかありません。

けど、この少ないドリアン経験の中で
最も幸せを感じたドリアンがあります。

それが
“自然農法の猫山王ドリアン”
です。

ドリアン屋台には
ココナッツジュースが欠かせません。

何故でしょうか？
それは、慣行農法のドリアンには
喉が乾くような強い刺激が
あるからです。

けど、農薬無しで
化学肥料も有機肥料も無しで
栽培された猫山王は
私の喉を包み込むような
優しさと甘さで
ただただうっとりするのです。

ドリアンを食べると血圧が上がる？
血圧を上げるドリアンは
本当に良いドリアンでしょうか？

最高のドリアンは
食感、甘みはもちろんのこと、
1口食べた後の満足感が
ハンパじゃありません。

ただ、猫山王は甘みたっぷりなので
苦いアメリカーノとの
相性も抜群です✨

願わくば、身体が喜ぶ
最高品質のドリアンを
求める人が増えてほしい。

そして、
樹のため、
土壌のためを想う
熱帯果樹農家が
増えてくれることを

Try finding mushroom there because mushroom is one of fungi and they cannot survive if farmer use fungicides, herbicides or pesticides.

Time capsule has been opened.

The feeling when I open time capsule is mixture of excitement and curiousness.
It’s like when I open a present box from somebody I love.
My Shifu told me that this is definitely successful result of IMO1 because white hyphae is more than black one.
Black mold is just 1 or 2% inside of the box.
It’s because we had full of happiness when we prepared the IMO1, believe or not😎
Some people always only to get black moldy result even though they tried to get many times.

The fragrance of IMO1 is just like a Japanese sake(mild sweet one, not spicy one), which gave me happy feelings.
Structure of hyphae looks so beautiful!!😆

Then we mixed:
IMO1 + brown sugar -> IMO2

The rice became very starchy like glutinous rice after mixing with brown sugar.
Let’s see how it will become like😎✨

Make some rice balls by clean hands.
Let them locate into lunch box.
This is like a time capsule which we have done in elementary school.
Under bamboo area where soil is fertile,
put the lunch box into the soil and
cover by fallen leaves.
I’m so excited to see the result.
See you guys the day after tomorrow.

黒糖を混ぜて好気発酵を
させて作りますが、
成長ホルモンがたっぷりで
栄養生長期の植物や
鶏のヒナにとって
成熟するまでの
最高の栄養源になります。

残ったパパイヤは
発酵食(ピクルス)になり、
たくわんのようにカリカリ(´∀｀*)
これも小さく刻んで

雑草が雑草を支え、
異なる種類の植物が
協力し合って
生きる環境。

これが私たちの理想の農園。
ただこれを観ている方に
知ってもらいたい。
これがマレーシアで
生きる術なのです。

日本人がマレーシアに残した花

この雑草の名は
ベニバナボロギク。
マレーシアの農家さんに、
これは日本人が植えてた雑草だと
聞きました。

ベニバナボロギクの原産は
アフリカであり、
日本に入ってきたのは戦後。
東南アジアでも帰化しており、
先駆植物として知られています。

キク科の植物のため、
良い香りを放ち、食用や家畜の餌にも
なります。

その昔、日本人はこの異国の地で
どんな思いでこの花を
植えていたのでしょうか。

3か月後の収穫を目指して

ミニトマトをトレーから
ポットに植え替え。

鶏小屋から出た土と肥沃な土の
混合物に灰を混ぜて
ミニトマト用の土へ。

蕾をつけ始めたドリアンの木の下に
置いたミニトマトと、
葉が食われまくりの
ケドンドンの木の下に置いた
ミニトマト。

さて、どっちが
よりよく育つでしょうか？(´∀｀*)
栽培は常に試行錯誤です。

ドリアンの蕾雨の降らない日々が続

ドリアンの蕾

雨の降らない日々が続き、
少しずつドリアンが蕾(つぼみ)を
表してきました。

まだほんの小さな蕾ですが、
枝に数えきれないほどの蕾の束が
次々と姿を表すだけで
ドリアン農家は大喜びですよ✨

一つの木が蕾をつけ始めると
周りの木も連動して蕾をつけ始めます。
たくさん花を咲かせて
たくさん結実しておくれ☺️

自分の弱さを痛感する時

初めて訪れる養鶏場は
いろんなことが新鮮過ぎて
その時、全てを吸収することは
できませんでした。

けど後から自分で学んでみると
あぁ、これってこういうことだったのか、
と、気付くことがあります。

例えば鶏が砂浴びをする理由。
砂浴びは日本人で言う所のお風呂です。
けど砂は人間にとっては汚いもの
と認識されています。

汚い所は水で流し落とす。
どこでその常識は作られたのか？
いつ、水はシャワーやお風呂に使われるほど
綺麗になったのか？
子どもは砂に潜ったり泥遊びに
喜びを感じるのに。

昔、インフラ整備がなくて
水が汚かった頃、
私たちは汚い水で
シャワーをしたのでしょうか？

砂は土に比べて有機物がなく、
生物多様性がありません。

何故か？
生物が住めないからです。
だから鶏はシャワーとして
砂を使うのです。

実際に砂浴びは鶏にとっての悪い細菌を
洗い流す役割があります。

こうした人間の常識を覆す
動物の行動が
私に新しい刺激と学びを与え、
遂には自分自身への理解へと
導いてもらったのだと思います。

栽培の醍醐味とは？

植物の栽培の面白さは
植物の生長を感じられることだと
思っています。

今でこそタイムラプスで
連続した写真や動画により
植物の生長の様子を
わかりやすく見ることができます。

だけど毎日自分の目で見ていても、
植物の動きはとてもゆっくりで
生長していることに気付きません。
ある時ふと、生長していることに
気がつく程度です。

果実は植物体に比べて生長するのが
早いです。特にドリアンや
ジャックフルーツなどの熱帯フルーツは
大きさがハンパないので、
結実して間もない小さな未熟果実を見ると、
これがあんなに大きくなるのかと
植物の偉大さを感じずにはいられません。

初めはトゲすらない花が授粉、結実して
トゲを手に入れていく過程を
見守りながら生きていけたら
どんだけ楽しいんだろう。
そんな小さな好奇心が自分をマレーシアに
導いたきっかけでした。

7年前の出逢い

初めてマンゴスチンを食べた時から
こんな甘くて美味しい果実、
どうやってできるんだろう、と
好奇心を掻き立てられ
向かった先が今の師匠の農場でした。

なぜマレーシアへ？と聞かれる時、
大抵「ドリアンに惹かれたからです」と
話しますが、実はドリアンよりも先に惹かれたのが
マンゴスチンだったんですね。

1週間という短い休暇で、
どうせ学ぶなら有機をと、
当時はそこまで深く考えずに選んだ先は
自然農法を実践している小さな農場でした。

その農場で初めて見た未熟なマンゴスチンは
想像よりも純白な黄緑色で、
可愛らしいという言葉がまさにぴったり。

滞在期間は5日程度であったものの、
ここが私のスタート地点となりました。
